Dreamland
Dreamland was Ciaran’s first self-published zine, created during the UK’s COVID-19 lockdown in 2020. The project captured how he was feeling during that uncertain and isolating time.
Dreamland was made during the height of the COVID-19 lockdown in the United Kingdom.
The images explored the emotional landscape of that period - feelings of isolation, stillness, and disconnection. While the zine acknowledged moments of glumness and loneliness, it also aimed to uplift. Ciaran applied a vivid, selective colour palette - drawing inspiration from Aerochrome film - to offer a sense of hope and creative momentum amidst global pause.
Rather than capturing the lockdown itself, the zine turned to the past: every photograph was taken between July 2016 and August 2017. Unable to create new work under lockdown restrictions, Ciaran revisited his archive, searching for images that resonated emotionally with the present moment.
Locations featured include Iceland, Australia, Ireland, and parts of the UK. The result was a visual reflection on the inner world of lockdown, filtered through memory, colour, and creative reinterpretation.
