Gold Speckled Carpet
I make work that aims to challenge aspects of people’s lives. During the period of lockdown, I began to experiment with self-portraiture and created a series of photos with my boyfriend at the time before we split up in the months following.

At times we can find ourselves on a journey of rediscovery. We often lose who we really are; we lose touch with some of the aspects of ourselves that we take for granted. This project explores the journey of self-discovery and a moment of re-evaluation at a particular in time life. For me that was after breaking up with my partner. Gold Speckled Carpet explores my struggles with loneliness and the difficulty of being in my own company. It attempts to challenge some of the emotions and feelings that still exist after a romantic relationship breaks. More importantly it’s about pushing forward and embracing being vulnerable and moving on to a brighter future.

Gold Speckled Carpet is both a direct reference to the carpet on the floor of my bedroom and use of golden light in the images. However, more importantly it makes comment on hope. The gold specks being small positive moments in life otherwise not looked upon greatly. Gold is the ultimate goal. To be entirely gold. For now, the carpet is speckled but in the future the hope is that slowly the gold will take over as the journey of self-discovery develops.
